Amelia Hutchison is a native of Victoria, British Columbia and a graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art. She is based in Hanoi, where she teaches English.
A personal interest in the transformational power of art to heal, restore and rebuild, especially in the areas of crime and trauma has led her to work at the Baltimore City Detention Center, Powell Recovery, and with other community organization in the city. Most recently she worked as the programs coordinator for the New Day Campaign: an art based initiative aimed at destigmatizing mental illness and addiction.
Amelia's own artwork revolves around themes of forgiveness, empathy and memory. She uses painting, video, mixed media installation and poetry to explore these concepts.
